We find ourselves at a nondescript university probably somewhere in the South (in real life, it was South Carolina’s Clemson University, while the film, itself, is shot in Ohio), where young men bully and cajole each other into acts Goat is one of the most horrific, disturbing films I've seen and it's one of the few that uses its spectacle of humanity at its worst with great purpose. While it being based on a 2004 memoir lends authenticity to the story -- a gut-wrenching realism -- it's actually the broader view that David Gordon Green and Andrew Neel give it that makes it transcend being this generation's Salo.

The same jokes that sounded funny at first instance lost their charm due to reputation.

It’s a movie that takes an absurd premise and mixes it in with all the usual buddy cop tropes you’d expect. On paper, it’s a recipe for disaster.
